FOO JIA JING

LEVEL DESIGNER

I am an aspiring Level Designer. My passion is to create games that not only challenge players, but to keep them engaged throughout.

My areas of expertise are in Game Design, Level Design and UI/UX Design. I can create 2D and 3D art and assets as well.

The most important aspect of any game is how fun it is. It all boils down to how enjoyable the game is to the consumer. It is quite a task to craft and create enagaging scenarios, but I am up to the challenge.

FUN STUFF

GAMES I ENJOY

Untitled-2.png

The games that I find myself regularly playing are Open-World Sandbox games.

I love the idea of a game presenting a giant world for me to explore and fool around. It pushes me to find for myself what I want to experience, from story campaigns to self-made wacky and silly scenarios for entertainment.

Open-World Sandbox games help me as a designer to craft systems and emergent gameplay opportunities for players. A set of tools are given to you and you are able to do anything you want and even push the limits of what these tools can do.

However, one must realise that Open-World Sandbox games can be a detriment to player engagement. The idea of "Make you own fun." doesn't suit well with many gamers, Open-World Sandbox games should be designed to make players want to play more.

LEGO ENTHUSIAST

Since early childhood I have developed a liking for Lego and its idea. I've then had the preference of Lego Technic and Bionicle since 2001. I created many different builds and creations since then. It was only in 2010 did I start to post my creations onto Lego sharing websites like MOCPages and Flickr. I've joined groups and shared my creations, these groups share constructive critisism and building techniques which I've used to improve my building skills.

There are similarities between building with Lego and designing games. Small parts come together to create a form or structure, these parts can be fitted together to create many different shapes. If there is a problem to fix, we can find new ways to use existing parts to create something new.
